Going On an Egg Hunt {Bayer Playdate}

My dear friend Megan and her girls came over to play today.  Since both of us have to work the Saturday before Easter, our kids will be missing out on all the community egg hunts.  So, we thought it would be fun to do one with our kids today.

Since my kids get easily distracted when there is actually candy in the eggs, we did things a little different.  We went out and hunted all the eggs.  Then we came back in and traded them for a goody bag.

We had a nice lunch and some great conversation.  Megan is a rockstar  She is getting her masters degree while working and being on every committee known to man.  She inspires me to push myself just a little bit harder, longer, farther...and her girls are truly joyful blessings.

I think we laughed and cried in the four hours they were here.  She is just one of "those" types of friends.  Happy Easter Bayer girls!

Feeling Special at Jack's

For any of you that know our family well, you know who Jack is.  For those of you who haven't heard us talk about him let me fill you in.  Jack is our neighbor to the west.  Our backyard is adjacent to his front porch. Jack has lived there for about 4 years, but has become particularly special to us in the last 2.5 years.

Jack has lived a hard life.  He served several years in prison for felony DUI's but has been sober almost 10 years.  He lost his son when his son was in his early 20's and I don't think we have ever talked about how he died as it is clearly an emotional subject for him.

He has a daughter that lives in Mulvane and a couple of grandkids that he doesn't see on a regular basis.  But he has adopted our kids as his surrogate grandkids and they look forward to his daily visits.

It all started one night when we had some leftovers. With the exception of myself, my family hates leftovers and I was sick of dumping them out in the trash.  So one night, I decided to carry a plate of leftovers over to Jack.  Then it became a couple of times a week, now Jack comes and picks up supper almost every single night.

My kids see him more than they see their own grandparents.  They run to him when he comes in the door and they tell him that they love him.  He showers them with attention and buys them treats whenever I give him the chance.

In return for the meals that I cook, Jack gives me a night off by buying supper once or twice a week.  It is a pretty sweet little arrangement.  Jack refuses to be in any pictures but did allow me to snap this picture of the boys playing on his front porch earlier.

There are not many things I am going to miss about this house when we move.  But, Jack will be one of them...and Steve jokes, he thinks that Jack will most likely starve to death!  Truly Jack, thanks for being a part of our lives.  Good neighbors are hard to come by these days.

Randomness {Kate}

Kate has been learning all sorts of new tricks lately.  Logan has taught her the classic "Cheese!" smile and she has learned that trying on everyone else's shoes is much easier than trying to put on her own.  This little gal and her twinkly little smile sure does brighten up our lives!

First Pigtails

They are difficult to see, but they are there!  Our very first time putting her hair in pigtails...it lasted almost 5 min before she was ripping them out.  My poor kiddos take forever to get hair.  But watch out, once it happens it is no joke!  I have so many cute little bows and barrettes that are awaiting their debut on this cute little head.  We are past the point of headbands so for now she is just at that awkward stage.

Dimples One & Dimples Two

Logan was being silly and trying on Daddy's glasses tonight so I snapped a picture.  But the funniest thing about it was realizing how much he and Kate really look alike!

Bubba Loves

Kate is working on cutting her molars and has been just a  little bit crankier than usual here lately.  Tonight, her big bubba was just what she needed.  It is a little sad to think that soon Christopher will be 18 and no longer living with us.  I am excited for him but we will miss these sweet little moments.

Goofiness

Steve always says that these kids get their goofy looks from me.  I think the truth is that they take after their dad, 100%!
